A £4k youth cafe grant has been stopped after youngsters put up a poster of a chimp wearing a crown in their window.

The Newent Initiative Trust has withdrawn its funding for the town's Chill-Out Zone in Broad Street after they received complaints about the controversial poster from residents.

The monkey business began last week when youths got into the spirit of the Queen's Jubilee by sticking the image, based on an original by graffiti artist Banksy, in the window of the drop-in centre.

Dismissing all the fuss, manager Judith Steers said: "People seem to thing it is the youths here that created the poster, they don't realise that it's a Banksy piece."
