THE Bishop of Gloucester the Rt Rev Rachel Treweek officially opened the Mid Wyedean ‘Church in the Street’ on Saturday.
The shop unit in St John Street, will act as a parish centre, replacing some of the functions of the now closed St John’s Church in the town.
The Rev Alan Wearmouth said: “We will not be holding full church services there. It will act as a sort of drop in centre where people come for advice, support and information.
“We will be holding morning prayer meetings there although our main communion service will still be held in the Catholic Church.
“The bishop was very supportive and seemed excited by the idea.”
