A FOREST woman has won an award for her part in a big day for couples.
Glenda Proctor performs handfasting ceremonies which can be done at weddings or as an expression of love.
In the ceremony ribbons or cords are wrapped around a couple’s joined hands to symbolise their love and commitment.
It is a symbolic ceremony with any legal marriage is arranged separately.
Her work has recently earned her the Association of Independent Celebrants’ award for outstanding services to celebrancy which was presented in Reading on Saturday, October 17.
The honour adds to her professional awards, 20 years after she began her career as a marriage registrar.
She now runs Cloud9 Ceremonies from the Forest and also welcomes couples from Britain, the United States and Canada to celebrate at Stonehenge.
She said handfasting is “a visible expression of something you can’t see—the connection between two people.
“The words, colours and people involved can all have a personal meaning.
“It can reflect your faith or beliefs, include your children and grandchildren, and hold plenty of room for laughter and happy tears. No wands or broomsticks required—unless requested!
“This award is especially close to my heart because of my long connection with the association.
“But the heart of my work is still helping people celebrate love — and creating memories they can carry with them for a lifetime.”is one holds a special place in my heart because of my long connection with the association.
“I’m enormously grateful to everyone who nominated me.”
Glenda, who has lived in the Forest for six years, added: “We have such a wonderful variety here – beautiful woodland, lovely hotels and gardens, castles and intimate venues.
“You don’t need to be planning a wedding to make a promise worth celebrating.”
