TWO women have been recognised for their dedication in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

DIANE Harrill, a teacher at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre, receives an MBE for services to education while Pam Jones, development manager of Forest Pulse, has been awarded a British Empire Medal.

Ms Harrill, who has bern a teacher at Newent for 33 years, heads the school’s Personal, Social, Health Education team which has gained the school international recognition as a model of excellence.

Upon receiving news of her MBE, she said: “I was really surprised to receive this honour, but I am also so pleased, not so much for myself but for the other people who have worked so hard with me on a wide range of activities designed to support young people."

Ms Jones has led and managed Forest Pulse for almost 30 years and during that time the charity has gone from strength to strength.

A colleague at Forest Pulse said: “Pam is a complete professional with a big heart. Her hard work and commitment have been publicly recognised with this richly deserved award."

• The chief fire officer for Gloucestershire, Stewart Edgar is to receive an OBE for his services to local government and the community over the last 27 years.

He said: “I am humbled and extremely proud to have been awarded an OBE."
