IN A DEBATE lasting just seven minutes Forest planners have unanimously approved a revised application for a new Asda store in Cinderford. At Tuesday's planning committee meeting Councillor Lynn Sterry said: "I am not going to say here we go again, but I hope this is the last time. "My first thought is why is the Co-operative afraid of competition? Competition should not be an issue. "An Asda store is needed to enhance the regeneration of Cinderford and help the community get back something of what we used to have. Coun Roger Sterry added: "It's not about today, it's about the future. "The catchment area of Cinderford is increasing and this store is part of the Northern Quarter regeneration. Asda proposes to construct a 4,645sqm retail store and recycling centre. Coun Graham Morgan reminded planners that the amount of letters of support outweigh those in objection. He added: "I don't know how many times we have to sit here and judge the development. If this application is rejected today, the alternative locations highlighted in the report for another supermarket would never get off the ground."
