FAMILIES across the Forest of Dean and wider Gloucestershire will be able to access free food support and activities during the October half-term.
Gloucestershire County Council is organising a countywide programme offering children and young people healthy meals alongside a range of free activities during the school holidays.
The scheme will run from October 24 to November 1 and will include sports, outdoor adventures, creative arts and crafts, community play sessions and wellbeing activities.
Sessions will be delivered by local organisations, community groups and activity providers, with the programme designed to give youngsters opportunities to stay active, learn new skills and socialise outside term time.
Unlike the separate Holiday Activities and Food programme, there are no eligibility requirements. All children and young people living in Gloucestershire can take part, regardless of their circumstances.
Cllr Linda Cohen, cabinet member for education and skills at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Children, young people and families should be able to access opportunities for support, enrichment and healthy food all year round, not just during term time.
“This programme of activities aims to give local families a chance to try something new, socialise and pick up new skills in a safe and welcoming environment.
“We would encourage families to browse the Virtual Family Hub and see what’s on offer.”
Food support and activities can be booked through Gloucestershire’s Virtual Family Hub.
Booking is essential because spaces are limited, while some providers will manage bookings through their own websites or booking systems.
Families are advised to contact providers directly where an activity does not appear on the hub.
The initiative forms part of the county council’s wider commitment to supporting children, young people and their families throughout school holidays.
The council said full details of activities, locations and booking arrangements would be published online in the coming weeks.
