A MAJOR photographic exhibition showcasing the talents of Forest of Dean photographers has opened at the Dean Heritage Centre.

“Your World-Our Eyes”, an exhibition by members of the Forest of Dean Camera Club, opened on Saturday, September 12 and will remain on display until November 28.

Earlier this year, members of the club were invited to submit up to three photographs each for inclusion in the exhibition, which brings together a wide range of subjects and photographic styles.

The club has around 75 members, with wildlife photography proving particularly popular among those taking advantage of the Forest of Dean’s natural surroundings.

Landscape photography is another major interest, although the exhibition also demonstrates that members have been looking further afield for inspiration, with photographs taken during holidays and trips outside the area included in the display.

Visitors can also see examples of portrait, sport, still life and abstract photography.

Among the techniques featured is intentional camera movement, known as ICM, where photographers deliberately move their camera while using a slow shutter speed. The resulting blurred images can produce an effect similar to an impressionist painting.

Several camera club members spent a day at the Dean Heritage Centre ahead of the opening, sorting through the submitted photographs and arranging the exhibition.

Each photograph has been numbered and catalogued, allowing visitors to discover the title of the image and the name of the photographer behind it.

The exhibition is free to visit, although visitors have the opportunity to make a donation towards the Dean Heritage Centre.

Members of the Forest of Dean Camera Club also took their work out into the community over the opening weekend, with the club holding a display at the Vintage Fair at Speech House.

Publicity officer Alan Waterman said the club was thriving and thanked the local press for helping to raise its profile.
