IN a moving ceremony to mark the return of the last contingent of 1Rifles soldiers on Tuesday, a lantern which has been burning at the entrance to the Beachley barracks was extinguished.

Major Carl Boswell blew out the candle which was the brainchild of base security guard Peter Pike to honour Riflemen during their tour in Afghanistan.
