USERS and supporters of a day centre described as a "lifeline" for disabled people are joining forces to fight any cuts which could close it down.
Users of the Foxes Bridge Day Centre in Cinderford fear that it will be closed down due to impending county council budget cuts.
Cinderford town, district and county councillor Graham Morgan said the scale of the cuts facing the country was something he'd never seen before.
"We've heard nothing concrete about the cuts, but the devil is always in the details," he said.
"It's things like Foxes Bridge that they shouldn't be cutting because it caters for the most vulnerable people in society.
"The centre does an amazing and necessary job and you cannot cut things like that without hurting people.
"These are early days but I would be very disappointed if this centre was put at risk."
It is thought the county council will be meeting to discuss their budget in a fortnight.
Val Jenkins, chairman of the centre's users committee, said a meeting would be held to discuss a course of action if the centre was indeed put under threat.
"We thought it would be better to do something now, before it's too late," she said.
"A lot of disabled people rely on the day centre, I know there's about 80 people who attend.
"I am in a wheelchair myself and go there two days a week to do yoga and computer courses.
"It's a lifeline for people like me and for their carers as it gives them a break."
