FOREST of Dean residents are being urged to report fly-tipping as the district council warns illegally dumped waste can harm communities and wildlife.

Forest of Dean District Council said fly-tipping could pollute waterways, attract pests and even block access for emergency vehicles.

Residents who discover dumped rubbish are advised not to touch or disturb it, as waste could contain hazardous materials including chemicals, asbestos or broken glass.

Reports should include the location, type and approximate amount of waste, while photographs can also help if they can be taken safely.

The council said waste dumped on land under its control would be cleared, with hazardous material given priority.

Residents are also reminded to use registered waste carriers when disposing of rubbish.
