A 42-year-old Worrall Hill man is to stand jury trial accused of causing a much-loved grandad’s death by driving carelessly while over the legal limit for cocaine.

David Bond of Woodview, Worrall Hill, has pleaded not guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court to causing the death of motorcyclist Nigel Meadow from Longhope.

It is alleged that Mr Bond drove a Hyundai IX35 on the A4136 at Brierley on Saturday, July 18 last year without due care and attention and with an excess level of Benzoylecgnonine in his bloodstream.

Benzoylecgonine is produced by the liver after the use of cocaine.

The magistrates sent Mr Bond for trial at Gloucester Crown Court and granted him unconditional bail pending his first appearance there on Thursday, January 7.
