DONNA Kenyon has been caring for her neighbour Charlie Warren for the past decade, ensuring the 93-year-old remains well and comfortable in his own home.
Charlie's family – many of whom live in Sunderland – are so touched by Donna's efforts, they reckon she should get an award.
Charlie's brother-in-law Wilf Matthews said: "It is nice to know that in our society today there are still some people who care and watch over others, and don't expect anything in return."
Charlie's eldest daughter Denise Lyne, from Yorkley, echoed those sentiments, saying: "It's amazing, it gives me so much peace of mind to know she's looking out for him."
Last August, Charlie slipped in his home and broke his hip. Denise says that if it weren't for Donna the situation could have been much worse. "I don't know how long he would have been there if she hadn't gone round.
"She makes sure he has a good cooked meal at least two or three times a week, and she takes him out for lunch some days.
"I do his cleaning and washing, but Donna does so much more than a neighbour's duty."
