National League One

Redruth 18

CINDERFORD director of rugby Andy Deacon is urging players and supporters to 'keep the faith'.

Cinderford have lost their last five games in National One.

However, they've been beaten in the last three matches by a single score or less, giving Deacon cause for optimism.

He said: "Again, we gave Redruth too much of a head start.

"We've talked and talked all week about how important it is to start well and we've got the players involved, but it's not happening.

"I still believe in the players.

"We've just got to stop getting ourselves in situations where we're chasing the game.

"Everyone has got to hold their nerve."

Slow starting Cinderford found themselves 13-3 down inside 15 minutes.

Aaron Penberthy kicked two penalties and a conversion, after number eight Mark Bright just made it over the line from a 5m scrum.

Mark Davies booted Cinderford's first points.

Danny Trigg and Dewi Scourfield carved out a great scoring opportunity on the right-hand corner, but Paul Thirlby intercepted the final pass.

With the hosts lacking ideas, it was no surprise when Bright stretched his side's advantage with his second try.

The class of Vinnicombe was evident as he destroyed the home defence with a 40-metre run before popping the ball up to skipper Bright a few minutes before the interval.

The second-half was scrappy, but Cinderford dominated.

With Redruth's Richard Brown in the sin-bin, Cinderford were awarded a penalty-try, converted by Davies, following some good pressure on the visitors' line.

Replacement hooker Koree Britton then forced his way over for a second touchdown, again converted by Davies.

The home side repeatedly attacked in search of the winning score, but the Reds survived six minutes of stoppage time to squeeze home by a point. It was their first away win since February.

Andy Deacon added: "We've played most of the teams in this league now and the only ones to pull us apart were Cambridge and Coventry.

"There are a lot of points still to play for.

"Our destiny is firmly in our own hands."
