Crufts dog dancing champion Carole Dodson has been given the go-ahead to open a centre of excellence in Lydney.

Councillors have finally said she can set up the dog training centre at Forest Oak Farm, the Purlieu.

She had been forced to withdraw ambitious plans because of fears about access onto the A48.

But after scaling down the proposal and removing plans for a holiday camp site she has finally been given the go-ahead to set up the indoor training arena and other facilities.

Dog lovers from as far away as America and Japan are expected to come to the centre which will be one of the few to train border collies to become 'sheepdogs'.

Heel to music champion Carole and Border Collie Clifton are Crufts favourites and councillors were told the centre would be an asset to the area.
