SADIE Melhuish won a gold medal at the latest Gloucestershire AAA Cross-Country Championship meeting at Tewkesbury on Saturday.

There was also a gold for Berry Hill boy Kyran Hale in the under-17s race.

Kyran was running for the Gloucester-based Severn AC.

Still only 15, Kyran was one of the easiest winners on the day.

The courses were relatively short, but muddy and uneven.

Super Sadie raced to gold in the under-15s girls' race.

Fen Madley was sixth in the same event.

The Forest of Dean Athletics Club squad returned home with four silvers and two bronze medals, in addition to Sadie's gold.

Megan Creed and Katie Kearsey finished second and third respectively in the under-11s girls' race. Katie has plenty of time on her side as she will still be eligible for this age-group next year.

With Eleanor Flack just outside the top 10, the under-11s won a team silver.

In the boys' race, Ben Harrison was sixth, with Charles Harrison just a couple of seconds and a place behind him.

Under-13s runner Emily Dowle won a bronze medal with Gemma Green seventh, Lauren Wallis eighth and Tara Sladen 10th.

That meant a silver medal for the girls' team.

In the boys' race, James Piercy got off to a great start and held on comfortably for a silver medal.

Emmett Thompson continued his gradual return to form, finishing fifth in the under-15s boys' race.

Freek van Arkel was fourth in the under-17s contest, with Sasha Heaman eighth in the under-20s race. Sasha was 40th overall in the senior men's race, making him the leading Forest finisher. Fred van Arkel was 41st and Colin Baker 47th.
