A 21-year-old Newnham-on-Severn man has been banned from driving for 20 months after he was caught at the wheel with an illegal level of cannabis in his bloodstream.

William Clarkson, of Ruddle House, Newnham, pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court to driving an Audi A4 on Highfield Road, Lydney, on 24th January this year when he had excess Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood.

The drug, known as Delta-9-THC is the primary psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant.

Clarkson was disqualified for 20 months, fined £769 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a surcharge of £308.
