FAMILIES are being invited to bring their favourite teddy bears along to a free community picnic at Newent Lake later this month.

Newent Town Council is encouraging residents of all ages to attend the Teddy Bears Picnic, which will take place from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, June 20, as part of the wider #ExploreNewent 2026 Community Day.

The event promises a relaxed afternoon beside the lake, with blankets, games and activities, free wraps for visitors and special VIP treatment for teddy bears.

Organisers are asking those who would like a free wrap to pre-order in advance to help with catering arrangements, although people are also welcome to bring their own picnic and join in the fun.

Alongside the teddy bear-themed activities, visitors can enjoy live background entertainment, outdoor games, pickup sports sessions, nature walks, fairground rides and an ice cream van.

The picnic will act as the grand finale to a day of community events taking place across the town.

Earlier in the day, residents can browse local produce and artisan goods at the monthly Town and Country Market in the Market Square from 9am to 1pm.

The Mend and Repair Café will run from 10am to 1pm, offering people the chance to bring along items in need of repair while enjoying refreshments.

Visitors can also explore The Shambles creative quarter between 10am and 4pm, where independent shops and galleries will be hosting outdoor games and live artist demonstrations.

The annual Newent Driveways event will also return from 10am to 4pm, with residents opening up their driveways and gardens for a town-wide yard sale featuring pre-loved items and handmade goods.

The free Community Picnic at Newent Lake is open to everyone, whether attending with friends, family or on their own.

Organisers said blankets and teddy bears are strongly encouraged, with extra cuddles optional.
