RESIDENTS in Newent are being encouraged to improve their digital confidence through regular support sessions at the town’s community centre.
Newent Town Council has highlighted the free local digital support sessions available at Newent Community Centre on Ross Road, aimed at helping people feel more comfortable using modern technology.
The sessions take place on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 12.30pm until 2pm and are open to anyone needing help with phones, tablets, laptops or online services.
Support is available on a range of topics, including accessing and organising emails, learning how to use mobile devices and understanding how to stay safe online and spot scams.
Organisers say the sessions are designed to be friendly and informal, giving residents the chance to ask questions and receive practical help with technology issues that may otherwise leave them frustrated or isolated.
The support also aims to help people stay connected with family and friends online, something organisers believe is increasingly important for older residents and those less familiar with digital technology.
A post shared by Newent Town Council said help was available whether people were “completely new to technology or just stuck on something frustrating that’s making you want to launch your tablet into the lake”.
The sessions are being held at Newent Community Centre, Ross Road, GL18 1BD, with residents able to drop in for support and advice.
Digital inclusion has become an increasing focus for councils and community organisations across Gloucestershire, particularly as more services move online and concerns around internet scams continue to grow.
Newent Town Council said the sessions are intended to provide a welcoming environment where residents can improve their confidence and make better use of technology in everyday life.
