THE FOREST of Dean Cycle Centre has been named Sporting Venue of the Year at the first Gloucestershire Lifestyle and Community Awards.
The Forestry England attraction claimed the title during a ceremony at Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham on Thursday, May 21, recognising organisations and venues making a difference across Gloucestershire communities.
The Cycle Centre was shortlisted alongside Bournside Sports Centre, FlyUp 417 Bike Park, Kingsholm Stadium and YMCA Cheltenham Sports Centre in the Sporting Venue of the Year category.
Forestry England also celebrated success in another category, with Beechenhurst shortlisted as a finalist for Family Day Out of the Year.
Representatives Kate Thoday and Merri Fisk accepted the award on behalf of the Cycle Centre after the category was presented by Bennetts Coaches.

The venue, described by organisers as the home of mountain biking in the Forest of Dean, offers trails for riders of all abilities as well as a pump track, bike hire, café and shop.
Kate Thoday, Recreation Ranger at the centre, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to win Sporting Venue of the Year.
“We’re proud of our site within the Forest of Dean, and this award is fantastic recognition for the whole team and the work they do to make the Cycle Centre such a welcoming place for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced riders.”
Forestry England said the recognition highlighted its commitment to creating welcoming outdoor spaces where people can stay active and enjoy the countryside.
Beechenhurst missed out on the Family Day Out title this year, but Forestry England said the team was already looking ahead to next year’s awards.
Forestry England manages 1,500 woods and forests nationwide and said the award reflected investment into facilities in the Forest of Dean, helping attract families, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts from Gloucestershire and beyond throughout the year.
