FEEL I have to reply to Gethyn Davis' letter in August 7 edition of The Forester.

I am a trader in Coleford. Perhaps Mr Davis would like to take a walk around Coleford and come and see us, rather than write about us in the paper.

Yes we are in a recession and yes there are factors ie internet shopping and supermarkets etc. We have been in recession for four or five years but let me tell you Mr Davis, not one of us closed down due to this. We all carried on. Businesses have only closed since July 1 2012.

Shops have been closing that have traded for years and years. You say just 20p and to look at other towns. We are on about Coleford not others. It's the principle of 20p and it's the traders that are suffering. It's very emotional having to shut down a shop but of course you wouldn't understand. These articles spoil your coffee time.

Perhaps before you pick up your pen again, come and have a chat first. This problem will not go away.
