Cinderford 26
Coventry 0
A MAGNIFICENT performance from the Cinderford pack, coupled with some outstanding defence, gave the Foresters a platform for their first victory since October.
Coventry thumped Cinderford 55-5 in the reverse fixture, but they were caught cold at Dockham Road on Saturday.
A minute's silence was held before the match in memory of Mary Beavis.
Cinderford pressed from the kick-off and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the eighth minute from a line-out catch and drive.
Second-row Dave McKee, Cinderford's man of the match, was driven over for a try which Danny Trigg converted.
More pressure from the home team resulted in a penalty which Trigg kicked to make it 10-0 after 21 minutes of play.
Cinderford scored their second try on the half-hour when a well judged cross-field kick from outside-half Mark Davies was gathered up by winger Rob Winchle, who dived over in the corner.
Trigg landed his second penalty just before half-time to give his side a healthy 18-0 lead.
With the strengthening wind now behind them, Coventry tried to mount a comeback.
Cinderford, however, were in determined mood and thwarted their efforts with more excellent defence.
Trigg was on target with his third penalty on 57 minutes and the home side made sure of a deserved victory when their forwards carried the ball some 40m up the field with a series of pick and drives.
Fittingly, skipper Chris Hall touched down in the corner.
