A 40-year-old Cinderford man who assaulted a woman and damaged her property has been jailed for eight weeks by Cheltenham magistrates.

Damien Marsden of Hazeldean, Cinderford, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman by beating on August 29 and destroying a coffee machine and kettle owned by her on the same date.

The magistrates said they had no sentencing options open to them other than jail as he had been recalled to prison following the offences.

As well as the eight week sentence they ordered Marsden to pay £85 costs and a £154 surcharge.
