THE Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal Trust wants to restore the old canal - which could mean building over parts of Newent Town's football pitch. David Penny, the Canal Trust's commercial and technical director, said: "The old canal line goes across the back of the site. "There is a possibility to work around the corner of the foobtall ground but we would rather follow the original path."
