MOTORISTS are being warned how many people's lives ended in disaster on the Forest's most dangerous stretch of road.
Six large signs now warn motorists of the high casualty toll between Elton Corner and Highnam.
There have been 39 casualties between 2008 and 2010.
But there have been 14 fatalities since 2000 and after an inquest into the death of 24-year-old Lydney dad Mathew Trattles, assistant deputy Gloucestershire coroner Tom Osborne said he would be writing to the county highways authority.
Highways hope the signs, the first in Gloucestershire, will make drivers think twice.
But they have brought in other measures such as a skid-resistant surface, extra countdown markers to bends and improved lining and signage.
