THE DEVELOPER behind the move to bring Asda to Cinderford has gone into liquidation.
Trilogy Developments (Cinderford) Ltd is being wound up due to the substantial legal costs it incurred during the ongoing saga to bring the retailer to the town.
However, despite the developer’s termination the Forest of Dean District Council still has two undetermined planning applications for the land at Steam Mills which raises the possibility of a retailer building on the site.
Patrick Stones, former director of the company, said: “Unfortunately Trilogy Developments (Cinderford) Ltd has gone into liquidation because of the hundreds of thousands of pounds we’ve incurred in costs during the legal battle with the Co-operative.
“We’ve had to fight three legal challenges over these years and have incurred costs with each loss.”
A spokeswoman for the District Council confirmed that the authority currently have two undetermined planning applications for the land off the Steam Mills Road in Cinderford.
She added: “The applicant is currently reviewing the documentation to ensure the submitted details are complete, which will enable the council to consult on, process and determine the applications.”
Planning permission had been granted for the store in July, 2014 but the decision was challenged by Midcounties Co-operative and quashed by a High Court judge in May because it was felt that the District Council had failed to consider the extent of harm the proposed store on Steam Mills Road would have to the town centre.
