AN AMBER heat alert is now in force across the Forest of Dean, as temperatures are set to climb above 30°C over the coming days.
Issued by the UK Health Security Agency, the alert came into effect from midday today (Thursday, June 19) and will remain in place until 9am on Monday, June 23.
Gloucestershire is expected to see highs of up to 32°C on Friday, with similar extreme heat forecast for parts of the Forest. The alert has been given a risk score of 12 out of 16—indicating a medium risk but high likelihood of significant impact.
Local health and care services are likely to come under pressure, with vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, most at risk. Indoor temperatures in care homes and hospitals may exceed safe thresholds, while transport delays and workforce disruption are also expected.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid excessive exposure to the sun, and check in on neighbours and loved ones during the alert period.
