IT'S been a fantastic couple of weeks for Welsh rugby sevens player Alex Cuthbert.
Alex, who hails from Minsterworth (pictured), helped Wales reach two consecutive Sevens World Series semi-finals at Twickenham and Murrayfield respectively.
Last weekend, Wales illustrated how far they have come in the sevens game by beating England 19-12.
Alex scored an important try, racing past another Hartpury College old boy Dan Norton to get to the line.
Wins over Portugal (35-12), Spain (7-5) and France (13-10) followed, before a narrow 22-19 defeat to South Africa.
The son of former Westbury-on-Severn stalwart Peter Cuthbert scored two more tries in that game.
Alex said: "Beating England for the first time was very special.
"I think I scored 12 tries over the two weeks and the boys really hit form, but it's been coming for a while – probably since Adelaide.
"I've never got to a semi-final before, but we should have beaten South Africa."
With the sevens season now over, Alex says his focus is firmly on the 15-a-side game. He wants to establish himself as a regular member of the Cardiff Blues side.
"I still want to be involved in sevens but I might not play every tournament," he added.
