RESIDENTS across the Forest of Dean are being urged to share their views before the active travel consultation closes at midnight on Friday 20 June 2025.
Forest of Dean District Council is seeking local people’s input to help shape the future of cycling, walking, and wheeling routes throughout the district as part of its commitment to the Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan.
This initiative aims to encourage greener, healthier, and more sustainable ways for people to travel, reducing reliance on cars and helping to lower carbon emissions.
To better understand how active travel is currently used and identify opportunities for improvement, the Council commissioned a comprehensive study by specialist consultants Stantec.
The study looks at existing cycle and walking networks, assesses their practicality, and explores potential new routes and infrastructure to make active travel safer and more accessible for everyone.
The consultation focuses on three key areas: general feedback on active travel behaviours and needs; a desired network map showing key connections between important destinations.
Council representatives have already held a series of drop-in sessions across the district where residents could view plans and discuss proposals in person.
Venues included Clearwell Memorial Hall, Newent Community Pavilion, The Rising Sun Community Pub in Woodcroft, and the West Dean Centre in Bream.
While the current proposals represent an early-stage vision rather than confirmed projects, the information gathered will be crucial for shaping future funding applications, feasibility work, and ongoing discussions with local communities and landowners.
Residents interested in contributing to the consultation are invited to complete a survey available on the Forest of Dean District Council’s website.
The consultation closes promptly at midnight on Friday 20 June 2025, so residents are encouraged to respond soon to ensure their voices are heard.
