FIRE crews were called into action at a Forest farm to help save a pregnant horse who had got her leg stuck in a manhole.

Two Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) teams from Gloucester were required to rescue the horse, who was unable to free herself after stepping into the hole inside a stable at Brook Farm in Minsterworth last Wednesday morning (January 12).

The two crews attended the scene and utilised specialist hoisting equipment from GFRS’s Incident Support Unit to help get the pregnant mare back on her feet.

The rescue was thankfully successful and the horse was unharmed during the incident.

Following the rescue, GFRS tweeted: "Both of our Gloucester crews have attended a large animal rescue this morning at Brook Farm, Oakle Street, Minsterworth.

"The pregnant horse had got her foot stuck in a manhole.

"We utilised our Incident Support Unit animal rescue equipment to release her safely."

A video posted in reply to the tweet showed the horse happily tucking into her dinner later that day following the ordeal.
