A 22 year old English Bicknor man has today admitted causing a young mum’s death by driving carelessly when he was almost twice over the alcohol limit.
Adam Selway, of Council Villas, English Bicknor, pleaded guilty at Gloucester Crown Court to driving without due care and attention at Mile End, Coleford, and causing the death of Lucy Vaughan, 22, on April 17 last year.
The charge stated that at the time of the offence he had 66mcgs of alcohol on his breath - the legal limit being 35mcgs.
Selway also admitted that he drove a Nissan Primera without insurance and that he did not have a licence.
A more serious charge against Selway of causing Ms Vaughan’s death by dangerous driving was not put to him at today’s hearing at the request of defence solicitor Mr Holmes.
He said he had only recently received the police collision investigator’s report on the crash which killed Ms Vaughan and had not had enough time to consider it with his client as he felt that the report did not conclusively show that Selway’s driving was dangerous.
Janine Wood, prosecuting, said the charge of causing death by dangerous driving had been brought on the basis of his speed and the fact he was driving with a spare wheel on the car which was limited to 50mph.
Judge Michael Cullum agreed to adjourn till February 16 for the defence to obtain an independent report.
The judge imposed an interim driving ban on Selway and granted him bail pending the next hearing.
