A CINDERFORD man has been jailed for 10 years for raping a teenage girl at beauty spots in the Forest of Dean between 1987 and 1996.
Earlier this month a jury at Gloucester Crown Court unanimously found David Davies, aged 53 of Cedardean, Cinderford, guilty of raping the girl four times - at Blaize Bailey, New Fancy View and Soudley when she was aged between 13 and 21.
He was also convicted of one offence of indecently assaulting the girl and one of causing her to engage in sexual activity. The jury also found Davies guilty of causing a different girl to engage in sexual activity during 2008.
At Bristol Crown Court last week, Judge Sir James Dingemans sentenced Davies to a 10 year jail term and ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
Defence barrister Tara Wolfe had asked the judge to take into account a psychologist’s report on Davies, who did not give any evidence during his trial, which stated that Davies’ only has an IQ of 65.
Prosecutor Kerry Barker originally told the court that Davies’s offences began after the girl became a babysitter for him and the abuse continued well into the girl’s adult years, but it became less regular.
