A Coleford butcher – who is believed to be the oldest butcher in Britain – has reached the final 10 selection stage in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2022 Active Agers category.

Marian Voyce, 90, who lives in Cinderford, continued to work throughout the Covid pandemic serving customers six days a week at the FC Voyce butcher’s shop in Coleford, where she has worked for 50 years.

Marian’s father in law Frederick started the Forest of Dean business in 1932 and she met her husband Lionel at the FC Voyce stall in the former market hall at Coleford.

She reached the selection stage out of about 50 nominations chosen by the public from around the UK.

Four finalists will be selected in each category and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 11.

Falklands War hero Simon Weston chairs the judging panel and BBC TV and radio presenter Rachel Burden will present the awards.
