ATTEMPTS to overturn a planning inspector's decision to allow 13 gypsy caravan pitches to remain on land in Newent have failed in the High Court.

The Forest of Dean District Council's challenge was dismissed by judge Mr Justice Lindblom, who examined the case in November and released his findings last week.

The saga over the application for retrospective planning approval at Southend Lane has been hotly debated for more than three years.

The district council originally believed that the caravans would spoil the context of three nearby listed buildings and refused to grant planning permission.
