Mangotsfield United 1

Cinderford Town 3

TWO goals from Scott Wilson and another from Lee Smith made the trip to Bristol worthwhile on Monday night.

The first half-hour was even with Mike Whittington, a Cinderford player last term, having an effort blocked by Pierre.

At the other end, Lee Smith flashed a shot across the face of the goal.

The match was held up for several minutes when the referee pulled a hamstring and had to be replaced by one of his assistants.

Cinderford striker Lewis Sommers also suffered a sickening clash of heads with an opponent that left him with concussion and a suspected fractured eye socket.

Shortly after the restart, Kyle Tooze struck a shot over the bar for the hosts when well placed.

Cinderford finished the first half strongly and took the lead in the 37th minute through Lee Smith, who forced home a cross at the back post.

Three minutes later, Scott Wilson ran clear and slipped the ball beyond Kevin Sawyer in the Mangotsfield goal.

Cinderford kept a grip on the game in the second half.

Dave Bird sliced a shot wide of the upright, then Lee Smith's header was turned away by Sawyer and hacked clear.

Mangotsfield pulled a goal back through Todd Winter, who stabbed home Matt Thorne's free-kick.

Josh Davies then had an effort kept out by Pierre.

With Mangotsfield desperately throwing men forward in search of an equaliser, Cinderford killed the game off with a 91st minute goal from Scott Wilson.

The energetic striker robbed the ball off Lee Marshall and skipped past Sawyer before finding the empty net. It was his sixth goal of the season and his fifth in the last three games.

Winchester City 0

THERE'S no disputing the fact that Cinderford have a strong squad of players this season. The problem has been getting them to transfer their individual talent into team performances.

Against Winchester, Town showed what they are capable of with Dean Lee and Scott Wilson catching the eye.

Lewis Sommers looked to have given the home side an early lead as he neatly finished off Wilson's cross, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Town took the lead on 37 minutes when Sommers and Lee combined well to set up Wilson, who took his chance well.

Lee Smith struck the woodwork in the closing minutes of the first half.

In the second half Sommers had an effort blocked, but the striker got free from his marker to head home Town's second goal from the resulting corner.

Lee and Wilson continued to cause problems for the Winchester defence and Lee Smith struck the frame of the goal for the second time.
