Swindon Supermarine 7

FOLLOWING on from last week's success at Trimsaran, Drybrook hit top form in this match against a team from a higher league.

By the end of the game the visitors were visibly shell-shocked.

There was no hint of what was to come in the early stages as both teams competed evenly.

Drybrook gradually took control and spent an impressive amount of time in the Supermarine half.

On 20 minutes, Drybrook got the breakthrough when centre Tom Treherne nipped in for a try that he converted himself.

Play became scrappy for a while until Drybrook were able to force a scrum 15 metres out, from which number eight Toby McCormick and scrum-half Carl Moore combined to put Ben Large under the posts. Just before the break Moore pressurised the Supermarine scrum-half into a mistake on his own line. He was able to pounce for a simple score, again converted by Treherne.

With a 21-0 lead at half-time, the game was all but up when Lee Ward crossed for two tries in quick succession at the start of the second period.

Supermarine's heads dropped but Drybrook did not let up. The next score was probably the best of the game – winger Mitch Baldwin and Carl Moore linking up in midfield to put centre Luke Fisher through a gap. Fisher still had a lot of ground to make before diving between the posts to leave another easy conversion for Treherne.

Half-backs Moore and Large revelled in the space provided by a dominant pack. Large completed his hat-trick with two converted scores near the posts.

Prop Nick Ovens capitalised on a forward surge to score Drybrook's ninth try, before the the visitors grabbed an unlikely try from a speculative kick.

Right at the death, substitute Pete Meek completed the rout with Drybrook's 10th and final try. Treherne converted for a personal haul of 21 points. Lee Ward was the pick of an industrious pack effort. Behind him, Carl Moore was electric at scrum-half, but man of the match was young stand-off Ben Large for his hat-trick of tries and some excellent support play, defending and distribution.
