ELLWOOD just managed to avoid a wasted trip to Bristol on Monday, receiving a late call at 11.50am that their game with the Bristol Academy was off. The Filton College pitch was waterlogged.
Otherwise, it was a good Christmas for Chris Addis's men, who saw off Axa and Chipping Sodbury while other teams at the top of the league dropped points.
Ellwood played particularly well against Axa.
With six players missing they drafted in James Shingles and Scott Morgan from Harrow Hill. Both performed well.
Ellwood went into the break 1-0 down and they conceded again 10 minutes into the second half.
They pulled one back when Jamie Addis headed home a Scott Morgan cross. Matt Addis equalised with a left-footed shot into the corner, then Gary Wildin won the game for his side with just seconds to spare – showing great determination to get in at the back post.
Ellwood's 3-0 defeat of Chipping Sodbury was more one sided.
Mike Nelson, playing wide on the left, cut inside, beat two men and scored from an acute angle.
Matt Addis made it 2-0, then Daryl Addis rounded the keeper to wrap things up.
Midfielder Jamie Addis followed up his man of the match display against Axa with another superb display.
This Saturday, Ellwood are at home to their bogey side Berkeley Town.
