NEWENT RFC have completed their first signing ahead of the new season after securing the services of highly-rated prop Ed Wallin.

The front-row forward joins the Green Army after a spell playing in Spain with Majadahonda, adding further strength to Newent's squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.

Wallin arrives with a wealth of experience despite his young age, having previously been a key player for Ledbury RFC, where he impressed Newent's coaching staff during meetings between the two sides in the 2024/25 season.

His rugby journey has also taken him overseas, with spells representing Vancouver Highlanders in Canada as well as Spanish outfit Majadahonda. He has also earned representative honours with South West U20s.

Newent director of rugby Sam Goatley said the club had been pursuing Wallin's signature for some time and was delighted to finally bring him to Watkins Field.

"Ed is someone we've been trying to sign for a couple of years and it's great we've finally managed to convince him to make the switch," said Goatley.

"He's a strong scrummager, physical and mobile around the park and has a good skill set, so we've no doubt he will take the step up in standard in his stride."

Wallin becomes Newent's first new arrival of the summer as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of another campaign.

His arrival adds depth to the front row and provides further competition for places as Newent look to build on last season under Goatley and new Phoenix head coach Rob West.

Supporters welcomed the announcement on social media, with the club describing Wallin as a player they had admired for several seasons.

Newent will hope their long-awaited capture proves to be an important addition as preparations for the new rugby season gather pace.
