Coney Hill.....12

LYDNEY thrashed a Coney Hill side encamped at the foot of the South West One West table despite a rampant start to this affair from the visitors.

An offside decision gave Lydney’s Nathan Tucker, the first points from a penalty kick before Phil Cowburn crossed for the game’s first try.

Tucker converted to make it 10-0 before visiting fly-half Finbar Baker crossed over for an unconverted try.

As the game continued, the Lydney forwards started to take total control and Tucker crossed over in the corner for a further five points.

After a penalty for a high tackle by the visitors, young wing Henry Sleeman showed his strength and pace by touching down for an unconverted try in the corner, increasing Lydney’s lead to 20-5.

Back came Hill who replied unexpectedly with Sid King scoring a converted try to make the half-time score 20-12.

As the game recommenced, it was not long before Tucker crossed the line for his second try as well as adding the conversion.

After desperate tackling by the visitors, it appeared Lydney crossed the line on two occasions before the referee awarded a penalty try.

The visitors started to lose control and already had players in the bin when the referee gave them a red card for serious foul play.

After play resumed, Cowburn crossed the visitors line for a second time making the score 39-12.

With the Severnsiders now in total control, prop Costner Lane crossed wide out, scoring a good try, for the final score after great play from both forwards and backs.

“I’m very pleased with the discipline we showed,” said delighted Lydney head coach Lee Fortey.

“They came to break up the game and slow everything down by using their big pack.

“We kept to our plan of high intensity play with pace, to move the ball at every occasion and ran out deserved winners and a very solid performance from all 18 players,” added Fortey.

“That’s three wins on the spin now and I will be challenging the players for more in our next two away games.”
