WORLD Cup-winning Olympian Natasha ’Mo’ Hunt is relishing the prospect of playing in the Sevens World Cup this weekend in San Francisco.

Hunt is part of head coach James Bailey’s 12-player squad for the tournament that runs from July 20-22.

It is Hunt’s second sevens World Cup and fourth World Cup overall.

She played at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens before winning the 2014 Women’s World Cup.

She returned to the XVs game in 2017 at the Women’s World Cup having also played at the 2016 Olympics.

“It’s everyone’s dream to play in the big tournaments especially me, I love the pressure of it,” said the 29-year-old from Drybrook.

“I love going out there and trying to beat the best in the world and to do that on the world stage is amazing, I’m really, really humbled to be selected.

“I just hope we can go out there and do something special.”

Hunt was part of the Women’s Rugby World Cup squad in Ireland last summer that were beaten in the final by New Zealand along with Emily Scarratt, Vicky Fleetwood, Amy Wilson Hardy and Alex Matthews, who are also heading to San Francisco.

That group were among a number of players that switched from 15s to the shorter format of the game, and there has been some encouraging performances over the season including winning bronze at the Commonwealth Games in April.

“The journey we’ve been on as a squad has been massive and I think everyone just wants it to click,” Hunt added.

“We feel like it’s coming, we feel like we can do something special as we’ve got some amazing players.

“When it works we look unbeatable and hopefully we can put that out on the pitch when we’re out there. There is a quiet confidence about us as when it’s clicked, we’ve looked really sharp and really dangerous.”

Hunt hopes the squad can take advantage of the feel good factor after seeing England’s footballers progress to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia.

“The buzz in England at the moment is so special and that can drive you on.”
