FORMER Drybrook chairman Paul Mason has been hailed by his club after 20 years in role.

Mason stepped down as chairman at the club’s AGM in June and was replaced by team manager Chris Rawlings.

Mason took over from Jeff Tate in 1993 and in total has served an incredible 40 years on Drybrook’s committee.

During this time he has also been the club’s fixture secretary and even more remarkably, archivist, match reporter and press officer for the entire 40 years.

“Paul is a true legend of the club and is having a well-deserved break and recharge of his effervescent batteries as he seeks to carry on helping the club in any way possible,” said Rawlings.

“Since Paul took the helm, Drybrook has been transformed into a thriving business which is the envy of many rugby clubs in the country with its first class facilities for both rugby and entertainment which stands as a legacy to his hard work and dedication over the years.

“He has been personally responsible for the upgrades in the clubhouse, floodlights, changing room extension and new gym just to name a few.

“His passion for scribe also got Drybrook the new England kit launch in 2012.

“Paul was also the architect of the club’s RFU Whole Club Seal of Approval in 2012 and RFU Club Accreditation in 2014.

“Drybrook Rugby Club will be eternally grateful to Paul for his efforts and for plotting a course for its continued success and development.”

Mason is continuing his writing work, following up his popular book on the history of Forest of Dean & District Combination released in 2013 to commemorate the organisation’s centenary.

Drybrook RFC: The Last 25 Years will be released at a book launch at the club next Wednesday, August 30 at 7.30pm to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary season.

The club’s new commemorative kit for the special landmark will also be unveiled.
