NEWENT Rugby Club is on the brink of securing a long term home - at the town's school.

After years of struggling to find a long term home, the rugby club is close to securing a lease at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre.

Rugby club officials are currently in talks with senior management from the school about building a new clubhouse and changing rooms and enhancing the existing pitches.

The plans are said to include four changing rooms, for players and for refereers. The club will have two match pitches as well as a training paddock. The facilities may include a weight room or gym and training floodlights will be installed.

The school will benefit from the sporting facilities during the week.
