NEWENT Town Women’s team will compete in Division Two of the Gloucestershire County Women’s League.

The side’s return was confirmed by a Special General Meeting of the league on Monday, September 15.

The announcement marks the revival of the women’s team, who completed their first season in 2024/25 but had to fold in May this year due to a shortage of players and volunteers to run the squad.

But the appetite for women’s football in Newent has never been stronger.

Over the summer, interest has grown rapidly, with around 18 players now signed up and training together in preparation for the new season, the squad is looking ahead with optimism to drive the team forward.

The relaunch of the women’s team comes with a fresh identity and renewed determination.

A teaser campaign on social media introduced the message: “New vision. New setup. New goals. Be part of it.”

“We’re thrilled to officially be back in the league and see so many players keen to get involved and help reignite the women’s set up and we just can’t wait to get going again,” said Chloe Jarvis-Smith, Newent Town Women’s captain for 2024/25 and a member of the organising committee.

“We’re aiming to create a culture where everyone’s voice is heard and the support we’ve had already shows just how important women’s football is within Gloucester and we’d love even more people to be part of it — whether as players, volunteers or as fans cheering us on from the sidelines on matchdays.

“Newent Town Women’s FC are committed to building a sustainable and welcoming environment where female players can enjoy football, compete, and grow together as a team.”
