THERE was huge disappointment for Lydney Cricket Club as rain forced their 150th anniversary match versus a Steve James Select XI to be called off.

The likes of former Ashes winners Geraint Jones and Simon Jones and England team manager Hugh Morris were all set to play at The Recreation Ground on Sunday.

However, the bad weather never relented, meaning even a 20 overs per side match could not take place.

It's bad luck for the cricketers, whose match with Cinderford was also called off on the day they had planned a players' reunion.

Lydney captain Ed Jones (pictured) said: "It's a big shame because we had been organising that match since January/February.

"We went ahead with the players' lunch and a few of the Glamorgan boys still came along, which was nice."

Lydney Cricket Club now hope to reschedule the match with a Steve James XI for next season.
