Some scores were on the lower side as the Seniors got the golfing week underway at Forest Hills, writes Geoff Norris.
In Division One Roger Hall’s 35 points won on countback from Phil Gwynne with Kev Doyle third.

On Good Friday a 36-hole Scratch Open attracted more than 50 entrants from as far away as, Plymouth and Harrogate.
The course proved a great challenge with only four scores of par or better.
The winner was Alex Emms of The Vale, Piers Murphy of St Pierre was second with Forest Hills’ Hayden Burford third.
The scores in the Saturday Stableford were on the low side due in the main to the drying conditions and the blustery wind.
John Binnie finished top of Division One with a one over 35, Paul Merry was second, Alistair Timms third, and Alan Edwards fourth.
In Division Two, Adrian Vines followed up his wins last Saturday and with the Seniors on Thursday with a 38 the highest score of the day.
Oliver Hopkins-Phillips was second six shots adrift, with Ashley Drew in third place, and Trevor Baker fourth.
In the semi-finals of the Winter League, Club Captain Steve Jones and Matthew McGirr built a four hole lead on the front nine against Joe Liddington and Pat Simcoe.
They held on to win 4 & 3 and will play, Mark Parkhurst and Wayne Stewart in the final.
They defeated Dave Matthews and Jaques Malan, 3 & 2.
The result was ironic considering that Dave had won two of the preceding rounds, playing on his own as Jaques was away on business.
The Clubhouse Classic was a Combined Pairs Stableford, which saw the white grass tees and the revamped second green making their seasonal debuts.
The winners were Mike Parry and Steven Thomson with a three under 75, two ahead of Lance Malin and David Payne.
James Holland and Nick Jacobs were Stuart Mudway and Alan Edwards finished fourth and Ashley James and Eddy Annis, fifth on 67.
The Seniors faced Cardiff club St. Mellons.
Following last weeks dog licence – 7&6 –reversal, Captain Kev Doyle paired himself up with the in form Adrian Vines.
They were two-up at the turn, thanks in the main to Kev rolling in a couple of birdies.
The opposition levelled the scores on the 16th, only for Kev to birdie the 17th.
But following a match that had seen a four-ball better ball of 10 under it seemed fitting that the spoils were shared.
The next three matches were won by the visitor as Alan Wearmouth and Neil James lost 3 & 1, Mike Steward and Tim Hollingsworth, 4 & 2, and Simon Ruffley and Chas Challis, one down.
Fortunately, the tail wagged strongly, as Richard Merlin and Ian Lovering won 6 & 5, Graham Wallace and Pat Simcoe 4 & 2, Phil Gwynn and Paul Sollogub, 5 & 4.
That score was emulated in the last match, by Barry Klein and Steve Keep for a final score of Forest Hills 4.5-3.5 St. Mellons.
