The Forest Hills continue to show the younger members a clean pair of heels, as Darren Page and Martin Weller won the Summer Pairs Knock-Out, defeating Dan Reese and Dec Findlay 3 & 2, in a close final on Wednesday.
In the singles final, Mark McGirr defeated Josh Goode in another close encounter.
In receipt of four shots, Mark went three up after five holes, but Josh managed to get the match all square at the turn, and, after some ding-dong golf on the back nine, Mark eventually ran out the winner by a margin of 2 up.
The second round of the Seniors Championship on Thursday, produced some surprising results, as two out of the three front runners from the first round, were forced into submission by the course.
The winner of the overall gross competition, and the Seniors’ club champion for 2022, is David Payne. He returned a 36-hole total score of 169, finishing two shots ahead of Dave Howard, who was ahead of Ray Innes in third by the same margin.
The winner of the nett prize showed just how important consistent golf can be, as John Riley claimed the Salver, with his two rounds of 72 and 70, for a total of 142, as he finished one shot ahead of Ray Innes, with Glyn Earle third on 147.
The Saturday Stableford threw up a few great scores. Derek Freeman-Jones returned with 44 points, Kurt Hanson had 41, and Brian Levy and Daniel Evans 39.
On Saturday afternoon, the Hills boys travelled over the Forest for the second leg of the 2022 Steve Briscoe Memorial Trophy.
In the opener, Lydney’s Chris Aldridge and Rob Hulme took on the challenge of Terry Davies and Gary French, and after a hard fought encounter, the Hills boys won 3 & 2.
In the second match, the visitors stretched their lead, as Tom Bath and Mark Lightbound lost 4 & 3, against John Humphries and Darren Page.
The deficit was reduced in the third match, as Ben Roberts and Adam Slee, beat Geoff Pearson and Ady Brown 5 & 4.
Next up, Lionel Bath and Hugh Aldridge failed to win a hole, as they lost 3 & 2, against Will Birch and Geoff Norris, with Will in particular playing very well.
The penultimate encounter, produced the closest result on the day, as Mark Robinson and Graham Stanley came in with a well earned half against Alan Edwards and Stu Mudway.
The last match out on the course, saw the home pair of Ali Frazer-Holland and Simon Wakeham defeat the visiting pair of Ashley James and Connor Mullen, 5 & 4.
The visitors also won the spot prizes as Terry Davies was nearest-the-pin on the fourth, and Darren Page, was neares in two, on the 10th.
Following the first leg result, that saw Forest Hills bringing a three-point advantage to the Naas Lane course, the second leg result of Lydney 2.5-3.5 Forest Hills meant that the overall result was Lydney 4-8 Forest Hills andsaw the trophy travel back to Mile End for the next 12 months.
