LYDNEY Town Women maintained their perfect start to the Gloucester Women’s League season with a thumping 10-0 victory away to Berkeley Town Ladies.

Town struck five times in each half on Sunday to make it two wins from two in Division Four, having now scored 16 goals without reply.

Their preparations were disrupted by heavy traffic through Chepstow and Gloucester, which delayed the squad’s arrival and forced kick-off to be pushed back.

Lydney travelled with 13 players but were reduced to 12 when Neave Peckham was forced off through injury early in the contest.

Peckham had already made her mark, however, opening the scoring from close range following a pass from Florence Fleet.

Ellie Connor then provided three first-half assists as Lydney took control. She twice released Fleet to finish before finding captain Ines Lefebvre, who struck impressively from outside the penalty area.

Juniper Hall completed the first-half scoring from Lefebvre’s pass to send Town into the interval 5-0 ahead.

There was no let-up after the restart, with Hall turning provider for Fleet to complete her hat-trick with a finish into the bottom corner.

Fleet then won possession on the edge of the area and created an opportunity for Seren James to score her first goal of the season.

Lefebvre grabbed her second after collecting Zoe Holden Gray’s pass and working her way through the Berkeley defence before finishing.

Fleet set up James for her second to make it 9-0 before the roles were reversed for the final goal, with James finding Fleet to complete a four-goal afternoon.

Town’s defence and goalkeeper Kellie Cutter also secured their second consecutive clean sheet.

The result left Lydney top of Division Four after their opening two matches.

They will look to continue their flying start when they travel to Stonehouse next weekend.
