HARROW Hill have revealed the early plans of a radical overhaul of their Larksfield Road clubhouse in a bid to ‘future-proof’ their facilities.

The club’s secretary Mark Boseley explained that the project has been in the pipeline for a number of years and hopes the redevelopment will see the clubhouse used by groups across the community.

The work is mooted to be carried out in two phases - the first focussed on renovating the club’s cellar, bar, kitchen and two of the four changing rooms as well as referee facilities.

The second phase would see work carried out on the remaining changing facilities and new entrances.

“We have been working on it for a couple of years now,” he said.

“We’ve had some grant support to help us from different sources and the Gloucestershire Rural Committees Trust have been helping with it.

“The national and county FAs have both supported us too.

“There’s a lot of work to be done still but we’re hoping to break ground in two years.

“One of the things is that it’s nice on the inside - we have some stunning viewpoints once you get into the club and the ground - but the entrance has just had it’s day.

“The changing rooms are horrible at the moment too so hopefully the whole project will give us a way to go forward into the future.

“We’re looking at a couple of designs but a steel build looks like the best fit both economically and in terms of the amount of time it takes to put up.

“Part of the problem we have with the ground is because of the subsidence we had many years ago, the club is on made ground and the only actual ground goes under the skittle alley and car park.

“The problem with local football is that it’s been run in the same certain fashion for a long time and it’s become stagnant.

“We hope this will future-proof the club and hopefully it will be for the benefit of the greater community too.”
