CINDERFORD Town manager Paul Michael has paid tribute to outgoing goalkeeper Cameron Clarke.

Clarke has returned to crisis-hit Merthyr Town, who suffered a 13-1 defeat at Chesham United in the Southern League Premier on Saturday having lost ’80 per cent’ of their playing staff.

Merthyr were forced to field a team largely made of Under-16s. Financial issues have plagued the Martyrs in the past but Michael believes Clarke’s arrival will help steady the ship.

“Many thanks Cam for your efforts and performances for Cinderford Town over the last year,” Michael said.

“You have taken the opportunity to play regular Southern League football and developed immensely through your own commitment and hard work.

“[There were] Some fantastic performances over that time and we all wish you the very best at Merthyr, where we know you will play a big role in their revival.

“Top player, top character.”
