A YOUNG canicross athlete has continued her impressive run of form with another standout performance on the national stage, following on from her recent success in the British Sled Dog Sports Federation Championships.
As previously reported, Daisy O’Donnell secured a national silver medal alongside her German Shorthaired Pointer, Wiz, after a series of strong performances across the BSSF campaign.
Now, the talented youngster has added further silverware to her growing collection after excelling at the Canix Fur Nations event, held at Pembrey Country Park.
The competition attracted more than 200 runners from across the UK, with athletes representing England, Scotland and Wales in a highly competitive field, underlining the scale and quality of the event.
Competing for Wales in the junior category, Daisy once again teamed up with Wiz to take on a mixed field of boys and girls across two days of racing, facing tough conditions and strong opposition.
Demonstrating the same determination and consistency that saw her succeed in the national championships, she delivered two outstanding runs on the challenging trails, securing first place in both races over the weekend.
Her dominant performances ensured she finished as the overall junior winner at the event, marking another significant achievement at national level and further cementing her reputation in the sport.
Canicross, which sees runners paired with their dogs using a harness and bungee line, continues to grow in popularity across the UK, with events such as the Fur Nations attracting large entries and strong competition from across the home nations.
Daisy’s and her partner Wiz continue to go from strength to strength as they compete against some of the country’s best young athletes.
With a national silver medal already to her name and now an overall event title, the young athlete is quickly establishing herself as one of the rising talents in canicross, with plenty more to come.
