ST BRIAVELS cricketer Fiona Morris has been named in the provisional 30-girl squad for the upcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka next month.
Fiona (pictured bowling) plays her club cricket over the Bridge for Bristol Phoenix.
The 18-year-old spinner has been involved with Gloucestershire for the last three seasons. She has trained with the boys on an emerging player programme.
Only last Saturday, she played two Twenty20 games for England under-19s versus Pakistan at Loughborough.
Both sides won one game, with Fiona producing fine spells of 3-12 and 1-15.
Lisa Pagett, the county women's development officer, said: "Training with the boys has definitely helped Fi raise her standards. Working in that environment has pushed her to be more competitive and really stretch herself."
Lisa believes Fi's call-up will inspire the ever-growing number of girls playing cricket locally.
She said: "It is fantastic for our girls to see someone from their county going on to play at the highest level and Fi is a great role model for them to look up to."
